A techie turned actor-director
Every once in a while, a short film stands out among the clutter on social media; they come with everything we expect out of a mainstream cinema — the perfect framing, a story that will make one think and a strong message. Prasavakkali is one such film.
This nearly half-an-hour-long film is directed by Aaryan Gokul, the same person who directed the short film Freakante Monjathi. While Aaryan’s latest film starts off on a usual note, the film turns out to be a tight slap on the face of body shamers. Prasavakkali, which was released a month ago, has garnered 1.5 lakh views and counting.
The film shows how the protagonist finds true love for the person who stands by him, irrespective of her physical appearance.
Aaryan, who has also penned the story and the screenplay, says, “The movie shows a couple — a husband who has no regard for his wife because of her looks and the wife who is waiting to give birth any minute.” A cricket match also becomes an important character in the film. “A typical street cricket atmosphere has been captured, which is inspired from something that we play here every day. The initial plan was to make two films.”
Aaryan had found his love for film while he was in school. “I love both acting and directing, but then I took up mechanical engineering and then, building engineering. I was always involved with arts during college days. I left for Dubai soon after my first short film was released and was there for six months. Right now, I have left all that behind and have taken up filmmaking full time.”
Aaryan’s next project is a music video. “I cannot divulge too many details yet, it’s a surprise and the song is a romantic number. Another project I will be associating with is a Tamil film directed by Rahul Rex. The discussions are going on and I will be playing a lead role.”
Aaryan has his hands full with ideas and has also planned to roll out his first feature film by year end.
