One for the soul
Awarded the Home Land Security Award Vikramjeet Singh Duggal, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Ramagudam, Telangana, is known for his strict but friendly demeanor. The International Organisation of Chief of Police, US, bestowed the award to him for battling terrorism and securing the help of common man to tackle it.
Following his passion
A strong believer in the adage — where there is a will, there is a way, Vikramjeet has all the support from his family to pursue his passions. “Activities like running, listening to Sufi music and mentoring civil service aspirants have become part of my daily routine. So I don’t find myself running short of time for them,” he says.
Sports was always part of his life since childhood. “I always check whether my belt is getting tighter on my waist. That’s like an alarm to set the things right. Accordingly, I regulate the duration and intensity of my workout/cardio. Right since my school days, I played cricket, kabbadi, kho kho and running,” says Vikramjeet.
Being a policeman, you have to be on the field even in the middle of the night in case the situation demands. At times, you feel like giving up on your passion. But if you pursue it, you remain composed and satisfied. It also helps you in being more creative in serving the public,” he adds.
Describing his journey in Sufi music, he says, “I used to listen Punjabi folk during college days. One of my friends discovered that I could sing sufi songs very well. In fact, in one of the UPSC exam interviews, the board asked me to sing a Sufi song. Sufi music is meditative. One can even listen to it at the background of routine work or during travels. It relaxes and rejuvenates me and keeps me going.”
Talking about his other passion, teaching, he says, “I have a group of civil service aspirants on social media platforms. I assess the performance of the students. I pose questions, to which every student has to respond in a time bound manner. Discussions go on about a variety of plausible topics which may be asked in the exam.”
