Adopting villages for their financial betterment is pretty common nowadays, where actors and politicians frequently get involved. But this IPS officer adopted a village to amend its crime ratio.
The village is home to 3000 people from 800 families. Entire families have been killed over petty revenge issues for over five decades and about 21 murderers are facing life imprisonment!
“The first duty of Police is to prevent crime. All I’m doing here is to make this village, a peaceful one,” Ake Ravi Krishna says.“If villages are facing serious group violence and generations are suffering, it is a terrible phenomenon for the country. The model I am following here is, ‘Adoption of crime prone villages to prevent crime’. Now, Kappatralla is moving towards peace and development, thanks to the support of each and every stakeholder.”
He, not only transformed the village, but also forced Kurnool Collector to sanction Rs 60 lakhs for the construction of 10 rooms in a government school. “I am a field officer. I visit villages, meet people and try to understand society from the ground level,” says the officer, who has also started literacy programs in the village.
He was inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Beti Bachao — Beti Padhao’ scheme. Whenever this tough cop hears of an abandoned infant girl child he takes it very seriously.
Also a song writer and singer, SP Ravi Krishna has released several songs and albums about saving the girl child’ and eye donation. This non-violent approach, of making people aware and understand social issues, has made him very popular among the youth. The public-police relationship has also become very comfortable.
While his wife is a part of an SHG (Self Help Groups) of the village, the duo and the rest of their family have pledged to donate their organs. His next aim is to build a sthree shakthi bhavan (women empowerment institute) in Kappatralla. Aimed to empower women, who have faced violence, suppression and oppression by faction feuds, the bhavan will be home to all-women economic activities like brick manufacturing, dairy, soap, pickles, jute bags etc.” We hope such heroes are born every day!
