Bengaluru: Ride Harley after a metro commute

BMRCL ties up with a bike rental company for the service.

Bengaluru: How about riding a Harley Davidson bike from the metro station for your last mile connectivity? All this might become a reality as BMRCL has tied-up with a bike rental company Wicked Ride, who will be providing commuters any type of two-wheelers on hire to reach their destinations near the stations.

Initially, this facility will be available only at Indiranagar, Byapp-anahalli, Trinity Circle, Mantri Square and Pennya metro stations. Later depending on the response, it will be scaled to other metro stations.

This collaboration between BMRCL and the bike rental company will be known as ‘Apna Ride’. There will be kiosks set up at metro station, wherein you will need to do a small documentation and then pick the bike. After the use you can come back and drop it at the same place.

Anil G, the founder of the two-year-old company said, “Initially we will have 30 bikes, mostly utility ones, besides bicycles. We will have the premium bikes like Harleys on weekends and odd days. We will be stationing them at the specified metro stations.”

“We are following the traditional way, but in a month or so we will be launching an app and then commuters will be able to make their bookings through app. .”
Currently, if you pick a bike from Trinity Circle you will have to drop it back at the same place.

However, in the coming days one will be able to drop it any other metro stations as the company is planning to docking stations throughout the city. Anil said, “Our long term plan is have multiple docking stations across the city. For example, one can take a bike from Byappanahalli and keep in our docking station at Bagmane Park.”

So, how much will these services cost you? If you want to take a Honda Activa scooter then you will have to pay just Rs 20 per hour for only 3 kms. Beyond 3 kms, you will have to shell out Rs 3 per km. However, for high end bikes the rates are quite different. For a Harley, it is priced Rs 128 per hour. For a day, it will cost anywhere near Rs 3,000.
