Jayaprakash's stove to woo international entrepreneurs

To exhibit his innovative smokeless stove at Rashtrapathi Bhavan from March 4 to 8.

KOZHIKODE: Koyilandy native V. Jayaprakash has been invited to present his innovative smokeless stove and community chulhas before international entrepreneurs at a function to be held at Rashtrapathi Bhavan from March 4 to 8.
“It is a lifetime opportunity to tap the commercial potential of our inventions across the globe,” Mr Jayaprakash told DC. “I shall also explore handing over the patent to global entrepreneurs or manufacturing products according to their orders.” Other award-winning innovations are also invited for the function, organised by National Innovation Foundation under Ministry of Science and Technology.

He claimed the stove and chulhas he designed have been saving lakhs of trees and arresting the emission of green house gases. As many as 47 schools in Kozhikode and Idukki districts are using the fuel-efficient stove for mid-day meal scheme under the UNDP programme jointly implemented by Centre for Energy and Environment under union ministry of environment and forests. He claims that usage of his stoves is saving Rs 3 lakh per day in terms of wood expense. Mr Jayaprakash, who has till now manufactured over 7,500 stoves, said he has given training to Indian Army and major institutions like IIT New Delhi on energy saving methods.

The stove has got awards in the innovation section of both central and state governments in 2012 and 2007, respectively. He has presented his stove at the Environment International Convention on Science, Technology and Innovation in Cuba and now is manufacturing stoves for Bangladesh as per the requirement of an NGO, Concern Universal. “There is large scope for utilising fuel efficient energy methods globally. Many flood lashed regions and repatriation zones could benefit from making use of community chulhas,” Mr Jayaprakash said. President Pranab Mukherjee will visit the stall and see the inventions on March 4.
