A home of one's own
Everyone can recognise good interior design, but it’s much harder to actually design a home without burning a hole in one’s pocket. Yudezine, a website developed by architect and interior designer Namrata Bagri, enables individuals to design their own homes without relying on professionals. The website uses 3D design tools enables the common man to design the home from scratch, by selecting the size of the room, wall colour, furniture and wall decor, among a list of other things. Once the selection is made, the company will replicate this customised 3D picture onto real life, giving you the satisfaction of actually designing your home, all by yourself.
Namrata, who was brought up in Hyderabad, says that the idea behind the website was to simplify the process of home decor and to help budding interior designers with their projects. “Home is a personal space and one should design it the way they want. We conceptualised the website around a year back. It took us eight months to complete it and it has been running since the past four months,” she says and adds that quite a few interior designing students and budding professionals are using the website to make presentations to their faculty or clients.
Having done an advanced diploma in interior designing from Singapore and having interned with an architect there, Namrata says that she brought home much of the country’s work culture. “I learnt how important it is to maintain timings, discipline and order in the workplace — things that I sometimes find lacking in India. People don’t take interior designing seriously and don’t respect it here because they think it is easy, but it takes a lot of hard work and talent,” says Namrata, who loves to spend time with her teenage daughter when she is not working.
