Swarnanool to empower women

The project also offers additional training for skill development in marketing aspects, quality control and financial management.

A non-profit organisation has come up with a project to support women entrepreneurs in the field of tailoring and embroidery. IT Milan Seva Foundation, based in Infopark, Kochi, has conceptualised the project, called ‘Swarnanool’, with the objective of empowerment of economically backward women. It is an initiative by the women wing of the organisation, with the aim of building new skills and support system for women entrepreneurs.

For the execution of phase I of the project, the group has identified 40 rural and semi urban locations giving preference to the flood-affected districts of the state.

Through the project, the volunteers of IT Milan Seva Foundation work closely with the women community of the selected locations, who are skilled in the field of tailoring and run tailoring units. They will be provided with infrastructural support like tailoring machines, tables and other essential materials in addition to continuous business consultation through a pool of experts from the industry. In return for the service provided, the entrepreneurs will be training a minimum of three economically backward women in tailoring and embroidery.

IT Milan has also appointed project coordinators and managers in each location to track the progress of the project in every unit, for a successful execution of the initiative.

The project also offers additional training for skill development in marketing aspects, quality control and financial management.

IT Milan Seva Foundation, now centralised in Infopark, aims to expand their reach to the rest of the IT parks in the state, like Techno Park in Thiruvananthapuram, Cyber Park in Kozhikode, and other emerging IT hubs in near future.
