Santhigiri Ashram hosts Kumbhmela fest at Pothencode
Thiruvananthapuram: Thousands, clad in pure white attire and carrying earthen pots and lamps lit on a platter, took part in the ‘Poorna Kumbhmela’ celebrations held at Santhigiri Ashram at Pothencode here on Tuesday. The prayerful procession began at 5 pm and moved around the ashram complex with devotees singing hymns before culminating at the Lotus Parnasala.
Earlier, the celebrations, which symbolise sacred relationship between Guru and disciple, began after special prayers and flag hoisting before the Lotus Parnasala at 5 am.Later in the evening, spiritual and cultural programmes were held in the presence of various dignitaries. The Mela also saw the beginning of the year-long celebration to observe 90th birthday of the Ashram founder, Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru, which will conclude on September 20, 2017, when the next ‘Poorna Kumbhmela’ will be held.
