Calling all arm wrestlers

This year's two-day Kerala State Arm Wrestling Championship begins today.

Listen up, arm wrestlers! Thrissur will play host to the 42nd Kerala State Arm Wrestling Championship, organised by the Kerala Arm Wrestling Association, a two-day wrestling competition offering a platform for both men and women, in which as many as 300 women and 700 men from 14 districts are expected to participate.

The trophies to the winners will be distributed by Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar. The arm wrestlers will be eligible to participate in the 42nd National Wrestling Championship held at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, which will be held from May 9-14. Over the last 25 years, Kerala Arm Benders have been the national champions and Women Arm Benders have been national champions for last five years.

“Arm Wrestling is a sport that needs a lot of physical strength. The Kerala Arm Benders are practising hard. They are sure to be champions this year too,” says Jojy Eloor, general secretary of Kerala Arm Wrestling Association.

The programme will be inaugurated by Thrissur Mayor Ajitha Jayaraj and the inaugural ceremony will be presided over by the president of Kerala Arm Wrestling Association, MLA Anwar Sadath.

The programme will be held at VKN Menon Indoor Stadium, on Saturday and Sunday.
