KOZHIKODE: Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Cheruvannur here has set a model helping the visually challenged students in learning. The 20 odd students of high school classes here were provided with the audio format of the textbook of all the subjects and a transistor to hear it. The pen drive containing audio along with a USB enabled radio they provided will comprehend the chapters via hearing. “The whole content took less than 2GB of the pen drive with 8GB capacity. The students can hear the audio according to their convenience, be at home or hostel. So far, the responses have been overwhelming,” said the resource teacher, Anil A.K.
Ishaq E.B, a 10th class student, said that he no longer needs to depend on classmates or those at home. “Usually, I seek other students' help to get an exact picture of what was being taught. Now, the lessons are heard in advance before taught in the class. That makes the learning process easier to comprehend,” he said. The project was being undertaken by the ‘Nanma’ club of the school with fund collected from various clubs in the school and from staff.
“We have 32 physically challenged students. Besides for visually challenged ones, there are plans to provide aid to others also,” said school headmaster Premdas K. Corporation Education Standing Committee chairman M. Radhakrishnan Nair inaugurated the audio system distribution function. PTA president K. Mayin presided.
