The world through her lens

Architect Priya Tadinada's love for travel is evident from her striking images on display at Gallery 78.

Priya Tadinada is an architect with a penchant for photography. A graduate from JNAFAU Hyderabad, Priya used to work at the Laboratory for Visionary Architecture (LAVA) in Berlin, (Germany) as an Architectural Assistant. Some of her clicks from her cherished travel escapades are presented as a series at Gallery 78 in a solo show titled, ‘Where next’. A true blue traveller, Priya shares, “I started travelling twice a year since 2014 as part of architectural courses and summer schools. I moved to Berlin soon after and travelled for at least one weekend a month to a completely new place and country. I used to click pictures for a personal visual diary. Some of the pictures clicked in Finland, Netherlands, Czech Republic and others are the ones on display here.”

Though the photographs are varied in terms of content, the photographer’s natural affinity for structural design, architecture, space, simplified geometrical realms and expanses can be seen in these images. Priya zooms her camera into intricate sections as well as vastly spread out natural bounties. One of her pictures recreates the inherent pattern of a concrete structure with multiple converging lines, while yet another one gazes into the picturesque delight of looking at a mountain range from the arch of an archaic window.

“All the pictures remind me of my excursions that are very close to my heart. They liberate and empower me to embrace my work with a renewed vigour. At present, I am working on a travel journal with pictures. The book will not be a travel guide but it will reflect my personal stories, interactions with local people and the emotional stimulus I experienced in different cities,” she says.

Priya believes travel broadens one’s horizons and feels everyone must travel as much as possible. “My travels have made me grow fonder of my own city, Hyderabad. When I come back to my hometown after long trips, I am reminded once again of the popular saying, ‘there is no place like home’,” she concludes.
