A man has been sent to prison for controlling his girlfriend’s social life and being violent towards her. The abusive man not only instructed his partner on what to eat and wear but even forced her to exercise.
Mohammed Anwaar would reportedly show his girlfriend Gemma Doherty photos of women’s bodies and tell her that she didn’t look as attractive as them. He also pleaded guilty to a new charge of controlling or coercive behaviour along with nine counts of assault and criminal damage. Apart from controlling tactics, he was also susceptible to fits of rage. Once he throttled Gemma’s neck so bad that she fell unconscious. He would also slap and kick her in the presence of her sons and even destroyed her iPhone once, reports Metro.uk.
Prosecutor Nicola Quinney said that Anwaar had held a knife to Miss Doherty’s throat on one occasion and told her that he did not fear a life sentence. The judge has sentenced him to two and a half years of imprisonment.
