Pravin Vatt: Pursuing his dreams
When Pravin Vatt moved to the US in 2002 to pursue higher studies, little did he know that he would end up being a filmmaker. Although 32-year-old Pravin was an entertainer from his childhood days, he wanted to take up a white-collar job after completing his studies. As planned, he pursued a job in software engineering in the US, but his artistic inclination did not let him continue with his job when he came in contact with artists and filmmakers in 2010. Since then, Pravin has made 30 short films like Different Shades of Human Life, You, Snapshot and Chronicles of Life, and the yet-to-be-released movie Sonia.
“Though, I have been working on many stories, it took me a couple of years to come up with this award-winning short film Stop It. It is a film on rash driving. It won awards at California film festival and Detroit film festival recently,” he says.
“It has been an amazing learning experience so far. My stint with HB Studios, IFCKC and other film-making communities in New York helped me to learn technical aspects of film making. My engineering background has become handy in adding new technologies. Now, I am looking for projects in India,” he adds. “I spent over a year to make full-length (80 minutes) movie Sonia. As usual, releasing the movie is tough, so I am approaching many people. We are also trying hard to screen the movie in theatres in India,” he said.
