Girl's heartbreaking letter reveals the powerful impact of words on children
Parents often end up saying things that they don’t really mean while scolding their kids. But words have the power to pierce young hearts even when uttered in the heat of the moment. This sad letter penned by a nine-year-old girl after a row with her mom proves why parents should think twice about the effect their words can have on the feelings of their children.
The Unmumsy Mum Facebook page posted a picture of the letter that had been submitted by a parent and explained the story behind it. Apparently, nine-year-old Ellie and her mother got into a fight when the child refused to tidy her room. In the letter, Ellie recalls how she had angrily said that she wanted to be sold on eBay to which her mother retorted that ‘nobody would buy her’. She then apologises to her mother and ends her letter with the painful words: "...the fact you said no-one would buy me really shattered my heart. At least now I know how ashamed you are of me."
Fortunately, The Unmumsy Mum reveals that ‘the shattered heart is now mended’, which in other words means that Ellie and her mom have probably kissed and made up.
