Back to school with a smile

Prathidhwani, a techie collective is in a mission to collect stationery items for underprivileged school kids.

As summer vacation comes to a close, the little brats nag their parents to get them all those fancy stuff put on sale in the school market. Not all though. The less privileged have to simply wait for the good Samaritans to gift them the essentials to take school.

The techie collective in Technopark, Prathidhwani, springs into action for the second time, along with Sanchari travel club, by keeping huge cartons in front of every IT Park building for anyone to deposit a notebook, stationery, umbrella or whatever they feel like presenting a school-going child.

The drive, christened Notebook, kicked off on May 8 and goes on till May 24. The materials would reach the deserving by June first week. Students in government schools would be chosen to receive the materials. Inside the park, individuals and companies are taking the initiative to deposit the materials into the boxes kept before the buildings Thejaswini, Nila, Ganga and Yamuna Phase III, Bhavani, Leela Carnival, IBS campus, Chandragiri, Quest Global, Gayathri, Neyyar and Phase II (UST Global and Infosys).

Taking a cue from the IT Hub initiative, some have expanded the scope and reach of the drive by placing drop boxes in city areas too.

The first edition had a rousing reception among the participants. Most of them had remembered to add into the cart the same stuff they bought for their kids. Financially struggling students in four schools in the city suburbs—Vilappil UPS, Chackai UPS, Kadinamkulam LPS and Aruvikkara LPS—were picked by the organisers that time. In 2017, the team encourages the idea of the more the contribution, the more the number of beneficiaries. Let’s make the season a reason to smile.
