Couple finally gets married after dating for 44 years
The adage ‘true love waits’ cannot be truer for a couple in their eighties who decided to finally tie the knot after 44 years of being together. Colin Dunn, 84, and Sally Smith, 82, first met in the year 1972 behind the bar of a social club that Colin frequented every weekend after work.
Colin, who is a retired lorry driver, says, “Sally used to serve me every weekend when I’d go in after work. We got chatting and she got used to me going in. Eventually, I asked her out.” Fortunately, Sally agreed and that led to the beginning of a decades-long courtship. The couple got engaged only last year.
“Marriage never entered my head at that point. We were always so busy looking after the children or going on holiday to Blackpool,” Colin confesses. “All of a sudden the children were growing up and leaving home and it was just me and Sally, so we thought it was finally time to become man and wife.”
Sally and Colin decided to finally get married after they experienced a few heartbreaking losses within the family. “We were going through a bit of trouble and we started thinking what if this happened to one of us? We decided we wanted to be man and wife,” Colin says, according to Metro.uk.
So, the long-time couple finally exchanged vows at St. Mary’s Church in Middleton among close friends and relatives. “If you work at a relationship you can keep it going. She’s always looked after me and I’ve always looked after her,” he signs off.
