A woman was unfriended by over 100 people after she posted her naked picture of cancer surgery scars on Facebook.

Whaanga was diagnosed with cancer on her 32nd birthday in 2015, however, she didn’t lose hope and decided to fight.

"What gutless people. People have tried to get it off Facebook. In no way is this picture pornographic. It represents the truth about cancer and what measures some women will need to take to survive. I think it's brave that she can show her scars and I think many more women will hopefully check their own bodies every now and then,” told Emma Rayner, Whaanga’s sister to Mirror.UK.

Whaanga has also had contact with Facebook and that they weren’t going to pull down the photo. These photos were taken for ‘Under the Red Dress’, campaign.

"Cancer effects people in many ways and its important that those of us who can set the example do," said Whaanga.

The aim of the campaign and this photoshoot was to make people aware about cancer.

“Aware of any changes to their body, to show that cancer does not discriminate between gender, race, or age,” Whaanga told Mirror.UK.

Be cautious and check your pectorals under your arms and neck and your breast. If you come across anything different, don’t ignore it. Precaution is always better than cure.

These picture were taken by photographer Nadia Masot, Whaanga’s friend. After these photos were posted, a heated discussion followed on Facebook. People tried to argue and call this photo pornographic and also stated that this might effect their children.

"If you can't personally distinguish the difference between porn and awareness then you obviously have issues within yourself. Facebook has an age limit of 13 and over. If your kids are on here, then re think your parental skills and stop blaming others for your kids seeing things you don't want them to see! ”said Rayner.
