Five schoolgoers aspiring to make a difference by helping out underprivileged schools in isolated parts of Chennai have formed WeHelp. The five teenagers – the leader Manav Chordia (17) Ganesh Konda (16), social media head, the secretary Dhruv Rishb Batra (16), the project manager Aakarsh Kankaria (17), and Aatman Gupta (14) have taken the initiative to help the students of Thiruvottiyur Middle School. We Help is hosting a tournament on Sunday morning at the Whistle Urban sports hub, for 20 teams of six members each. A trophy and prize money will be awarded to the winners.
“Everyone deserves an equal opportunity for learning. Football is a popular game and it made sense to conduct a tournament to reach a wider audience to gain their support for the cause. This, in turn, will benefit the Thiruvottiyur Middle School,” says We Help founder Manav Chordia.
The cause will support families victimised by the tsunami of 2004. Due to meagre funding from the government, the students are deprived of basic amenities that are to be provided by the school. The funds raised would be used to provide necessary furniture, fix toilets and better the infrastructure.
The members of the club hope to form friendships, shape lives and make a substantial difference.
“Although this group is small and recently formed, we hope to grow exponentially with each event of ours. We believe in ourselves, and are confident we can make an impact in society,” Manav adds. “We intend to help the underprivileged students who attend the Thiruvottiyur Middle School in matters of education quality and general management of the infrastructure of the school. The money for this is to be raised via a fundraiser event. Every penny raised will go towards helping the cause of the school, the people that need it most.”
