Urdu rapper rocks Hyderabad!
Hyderabad’s Ruhaan Arshad is slowly, but surely, becoming a name to reckon with on the internet and social media circles. The 17-year- old, who is a student of the city’s Prathibha Degree College, has come up with an interesting number, Miya Bhai.
The rap number, rendered in a typical Hyderabadi Urdu, has already garnered 5.6 million views on YouTube within two weeks of release, and is tipped to be the first Hyderabadi Urdu rap to have posted such figures on the YouTube. Shares Ruhaan Arshad, “I’m thrilled with the feedback I am getting, and I never expected such a great response. I’m glad that it’s going viral.”
Apparently, this is Ruhaan’s fourth song as he earlier crooned for Marfe Wale Babu, Hyderabadi Raja and Ruhan Arshad rap album. “I wanted to make a name for myself in the niche area of Urdu rap. I have been fascinated and inspired by remix and rap numbers since I was seven years old. I started to write the lyrics (dubbing) for Bollywood songs. Later, my interest grew and I specialised in penning lyrics and started using typical Hyderabadi words like Galli, Chai, Haleem, Nawab, Biriyani, etc in my songs,” reveals Ruhaan.
The song, which Ruhan wrote and crooned in just one week, also enhanced his subscriber base on the YouTube channel from five thousand to more than one lakh, he said.
His success has got him much appreciation. The MLA of his constituency, Quthbullapur, and others have felicitated him and assured him all the support for his career. “I think that’s a big boost! Independent and private composers have approached me to write and sing for them. My friends Taufeeq Shaik and Abdul Aziz who are also part of my journey, are glad that there’s some recognition for the hard work put in,” he adds.
