Here's why Prince Charles might not become King Charles III when he takes to throne

Prince of Wales may choose to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather and opt to go by one of his middle names.

According to the Queen’s former press secretary, Prince Charles may not become King Charles III when he takes to the throne.

A story published in MailOnline finds Dickie Arbiter recount that the Prince of Wales may choose to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather and opt to go by one of his middle names, Philip, Arthur or George following his crowning.

His grandfather, Queen Elizabeth’s dad, chose to become King George VI, despite his first name being Albert.

"[Charles will] also be Lord of the Mann [Isle of Man] and Duke of Normandy. But generally he'll only be known as King.,” he added.

Other titles the Prince of Wales will inherit include the Duke of Lancaster, Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governor of the Church of England.

The exact title Camilla will be awarded when Charles becomes King remains a question for debate.

Since the couple wed in 2005, Clarence House has maintained it is "intended" that Camilla will be known as Princess Consort.

The throne will pass to Prince Charles if Her Majesty abdicates or dies.
