Father drags daughter to court for not graduating fast enough

Now the daughter not only has to pay €24,000 but also give out €8,000 in legal fees.

A parent in Austria who was not happy shelling out extra money for his daughter’s college tuition has sued her to recover the expenses incurred. The daughter, who has not been identified, had taken five more semesters to complete her bachelor’s course at the University of Vienna.

The woman earned her degree in architecture after 13 semesters while it usually takes just eight semesters to finish the same degree at the university. Despite losing two cases in the country’s lower courts, her father was able to successfully win his claim at the Supreme Court. It was ruled that he was liable to pay only for 10 out of the 13 semesters that his daughter studied, according to Austria's Heute.

Now the daughter not only has to pay €24,000 but also give out €8,000 in legal fees. Interestingly, the firm that represented the father in this case has also contested for six similar suits in the past two years.
