Single mother explains why she teaches her young son to cook and clean

Most men and even women are brought up with the idea that domestic duties aren't appropriate for men to do.

Research shows that often people are mental conditioned to accept rigid gender roles at a young age. Therefore, it is important that parents take the initiative to teach children about concepts like equality and respect for the opposite sex. Nikkole Paulun, a single mother-of-two, takes this responsibility pretty seriously by teaching her young soon to do household chores on his own.

In a social media post, Paulun explained why she teaches her six-year-old son Lyle to cook and perform domestic tasks like emptying the dishwasher and sorting the washing machine. She wrote that she wants to make it clear to her child that ‘household work just isn’t for women’.

Most men and even women are brought up with the idea that domestic duties aren’t appropriate for men to do. This leads to stereotypical notions about gender expectations and prevents people from becoming truly independent. It is certainly admirable that mothers like Paulun are out there to teach their kids the right things.
