Wearing patriotism on your sleeve

Stylist Prajanya Anand echoes the same sentiments as Sushmita when it comes to Indian attire.

Independence Day is a time for celebration and a reaffirmation of your patriotism and love for the country. It doesn’t always have to be waving the flag or an Independence Day gathering, but can also be incorporated into your wardrobe. After all, what’s better than wearing the pride of belonging to India on this day? Chennai’s fashionable folk tell us how to carry off the tricolour in all its glory.

“Wearing a tricolour dupatta with a full white kurta and leggings will look beautiful today! For a more western outfit, a green blouse paired with white pants and an orange bag will look super cute. I also think bringing the three colours into makeup would make for a fun look. Using orange, green, and white on the eyes with a light gloss and a simple outfit will not just look edgy but make you stand out!” says fashion and beauty blogger, Sushmita Agarwal. She adds, “Today, I’ll be uploading a makeup tutorial on the same, to celebrate and also be wearing my tricolour dupatta —if it’s ready in time.”

Model Pradaini Surva, on the other hand, believes in keeping it simple. “I prefer to be dressed in white from head-to-toe and wear it with a flag pin. I think it’s one of most beautiful ways of wearing our national flag’s colours with pride!” When asked how she’ll be celebrating the occasion, she responds, “I’m not sure. I’ll just go with the flow! It’s definitely a day to feel proud of our country and achievements.”

Stylist Prajanya Anand echoes the same sentiments as Sushmita when it comes to Indian attire. She says, “People love wearing white and pairing it with bangles and earrings that bring the tricolour elements to the outfit. Besides that, a nice colourful dupatta for that desi touch will also look good. If you want to wear western attire, bright coloured t-shirts in orange and green also work wonderfully.

Add to that a white dupatta or vibrant mojris, and you’ve got a perfect ensemble for the occasion!” She goes on to say, “Unfortunately, I will be travelling today but if I do end up going to Puducherry as planned, I will definitely make sure to wear a stole that incorporates the colours!”
