Amityville Horror' house up for sale
Remember the movie "The Amityville Horror"? The house that inspired that movie and book is up for sale and even despite its murderous history it’s not going at the cheap price.
108 Ocean Avenue, Amityville, New York, has been listed by Zillow.com at a price of $850,000 -roughly £586,000.
The price put for sale is actually cheaper than what it was sold for in 2010. The current owner brought this house for $950,000. As the owner’s husband died last year she is looking to downsize, reports the NY Daily News.
The 5-bedroom, 4-bathroom house also has a boat house, garage for two cars and a haunted past.
According to reports, in 1974 Ronald DeFeo murdered his four siblings, his parents. All the victims were found shot, lying face down in their beds.
DeFeo argued that it was the voices in the house that made him commit the crime. However, the court rejected his plea of insanity as he received six life sentences.
DeFeo is currently at Sullivan Correctional Facility, Fallsburg, New York, and has a parole hearing scheduled for 2017.
The occupants of the house confirmed that paranormal acitivity has been common in the house.
Once can hear strange sounds, smell foul odour and experience chilling cold despite a roaring fireplace.
It was these claims that inspired the 1977 book The Amityville Horrors and later it was made into a film.
The current house broker, Jerry O’Neill has rejected these tales and told NY Daily News,
“The only horror about this house was that a family was murdered… Real estate is a very fickle product. Sometimes you’re disappointed, sometimes you’re pleasantly surprised… Buyers are going to see this only through brokers.”
