Taking the positive route

Create positive energy in your home with these quick changes...

Your own space is one that you come back to everyday and so it is crucial to make it one where ‘you’ feel like spending a lot of time. The best way to add positivity is let it reflect your personality — A space that makes you happy which brings in the most amount of positivity. If vintage is your style, go for the old look, but if you like modern décor, let that define your space. Here are five ways to enthuse positive energy in your home:

Pleasing to the eye: Add a splash of bright and warm colours – get upholstery, linen and cushion covers in shades and prints that you enjoy seeing every day. Embrace the arts – India has a wide variety of hand-crafted art forms for you to choose from.

Let there be light: If possible, let a lot of natural sunlight come in – nature always has its ways of making us happy and cheerful. Shear curtains do the trick. For the evenings, use the right lighting to convert your space into a cozy nook — lampshades with yellow light work wonders. Let the lampshade add a pop of colour to your space. Get a custom-made lamp if you can’t find one off the shelf that fits your taste.

Breathing Room: Declutter and keep the space organised – remove negativity. A place for everything, and everything in its place because clutter means stress thereby contributing negatively to your Feng Shui. Place a few plants in your space to clean the air and make it fresh. If you go by what the Feng Shui gurus say, nothing works better than a peace lily flower.

The sound of Music: Play music of your choice. Add a small water fountain – the sound of water is known to awaken the right senses.

Nothing is more memorable than a smell: Often overlooked, if a place smells good, it makes you happy. Light a scented candle or use an aroma oil of your choice in a diffuser. According to Feng Shui, salt absorbs everything including negative energy. Therefore, using aroma salts can help infuse positivity. Make sure it’s a light breezy smell, nothing too strong.

All said and done, make it a space where you’d love to have some hearty and happy conversations with your loved ones — nothing makes you more positive than the sound of cheer and laughter.
