A fundraising program for the Cancer Institute

As it was a fundraising programme, the proceeds were given as charity to Chennai's Cancer Institute.

While we proclaim about women empowerment in the modern times, we must remember those, who have created history to restore their rightful and dignified status in the ancient times. Velu Nachiyar was one such woman and the first female ruler of India to take up arms against the British and rule for 10 years — it was the glorious period of Sivaganga,” remarked Tamizhisai Soundarrajan, the BJP state president, at Velu Nachiyar, a patriotic dance drama organised by Velammal Bodhi Campus.

The dance drama throws light on the fortitude, endurance, resilience, perseverance, tact, administrative ability and conviction of a brave woman, Velu Nachiyar, whose resistance ultimately led to the British leaving India.

Tamizhisai also lauded the lead lady, who performed the role of Velu Nachiyar in the drama directed by Sriram Sharma (who is conducting the dance drama for several years through his OVM Dance Academy), by saying that Velu Nachiyar was a feast to the eyes and panacea to break the shackles that women encounter in the present scenario.

As it was a fundraising programme, the proceeds were given as charity to Chennai’s Cancer Institute. Poet and orator Thamizhachi Thangapandian, Vanathi Srinivasan and Geethanjali Sasikumar, the executive director of Velammal Bodhi, were the other top names, who were present at the event.
