Kozhikode to play host to National Book Week programmes
KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode City will host a series of literary programmes as part of the National Book Week, being organized by the Sahitya Akademi, India’s national academy of letters. A book exhibition will be held at the Police Club at Pavamani Road from November 14 till 20. A series of documentary exhibitions on Indian legendary litterateurs, Poets’ meet, panel discussions and short story readings are also being conducted as part of the programme.
The exhibition being conducted as part of the National Book Week will have attractive discounts from 20 -75 percent on books and sales of documentary CDs on writers. The exhibition will be held from 10 am to 8 pm. The inaugural ceremony on Monday at 5 pm will be inaugurated by noted writer U A Khader. Sahitya Akademi Malayalam Advisory Board Member Anil Vallathol will deliver the keynote address. On November 15, 17 and 19, documentaries on Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, Subramanya Bharathi, M.T Vasudevan Nair, D Jayakanth, Vaikom Muhammed Basheer, U.R Anantha Murthy, Ayyappa Paniker, Mahasweta Devi and Kamala Das.
A poets’ meet will be held on November 16 chaired by P.P Sreedharanunni. M.N Paloor, P.M Narayanan and P.P Ramachandran will participate. The short story reading programme on November 18 will see the presence of U.K Kumaran, V R Sudheesh, P Valsala and E P Jyothi. A Panel Discussion on ‘Literature and Life’ will be held on November 20 in which M.M Basheer, C Rajendran, M.N Karaserry and V Sukumaran will take part.
