Video: Woman delivers baby in a stream; footage watched over 52 million times

A 43-year-old mother wanted to experience labour ‘in the wild’ gave birth in a stream without any medical help and also filmed the entire process.

Simone Thurber feels proud of the footage of the birth of her fourth child. She also insisted that she isn’t ‘hippy drippy’ as the footage has been watched by 52 million people.

The 22-minute-and-32-second video was taken by her partner in 2012 and has been received shocking attention.

The video starts with the brunette labouring in and out of the bathtub set up in a garden and then she heads down to a creek in the the Australian Daintree Rain Forrest in Queensland, completely naked.

Her partner Nick who filmed the entire experience at times steps in to encourage and help her at various moments.

Thruber has no midwife or doctor around for help, she is a trained doula and birth therapist. The footages show her getting on all fours as she breathes through the contradiction and pain and eventually the baby’s head emerges. She is seen pushing her daughter out and her partner comes in for help.

After the birth she is seen holding her baby girl close to her breast and rest of her daughters watches them.

Thruber explains that she uploded the video on YouTube to show everyone what it would be to give birth in nature and the attention the video got was unexpected.

“After 50 people watched it I thought OMG my friends have seen me really naked, after 500 I was shocked. To know that more than 52 million people have taken the time to watch me having my now four-year-old daughter Perouze and to get messages from mums and dads thanking me for sharing this intimate birthing experience because it helped them feel less stressed or scared about their birth choice decisions is great,” She told the DailyMail.com

She wanted her fourth kid to be born away from the machines and hospital surrounding. She always wanted to have a labour experience in the wild.

“I am not a hippy drippy mum but I wanted my fourth child to be born away from beeping machines and a hospital environment. Let’s face it women have been giving birth in the wild for thousands of years but the thought a modern women squatting in a creek and giving birth horrified many people even before I gave birth and shared the video,” she said.

When she was pregnant with her fourth child, she discussed this plan with her partner and he supported her. The couple at that time was living in Melbourne, Australia and then they went to find the perfect location.

Their parent offered them a place in the Daintree Rainforest area and they found a stream nearby.

In case of night birth they installed a bathtub in the garden. Thruber went into labour at 11pm and they expected it to be short. However, she was experiencing contractions at 9am and then she jumped into a car and headed to the birth location near the streams.

Two hours later she gave birth to a baby girl who was named Perouze and is now four-and-a-half years old.

Recalling all this she told to the DailyMail, “'Nick was filming and he gave the camera to our friend and gave her head and shoulders a nudge and she came out. I immediately grabbed her and put her on my chest. The sun was shining, we were in a creek and we had a new baby. It took another two hours to birth the placenta and when we got back to their friends house I ripped a piece off and I had a placenta smoothie. I suffered post-natal depression with all my births and this helped, I felt energised and awake. The whole experience felt empowering and freeing and our beautiful little girl was healthy and fine.”

She also admits that her fourth pregnancy was harder than the others.

Doctors also warned her that it was a risky pregnancy at the age of 39 but she went ahead with her gut.

She gave birth four years ago and the video was first posted in 2013 to celebrate daughter Perouze's first birthday.
