Video: The internet can't get over this Chinese journalist's dramatic eye-roll
It hasn’t been long since Priya Prakash Varrier took the internet by storm simply with her eyes. Now it seems like similar gestures are gaining attention on the digital space with similar videos going viral.
While journalists in India have been in the news for various reasons including their style of reporting to going inside bathtubs, a reporter from China is the new viral sensation. Liang Xiangyi was spotted giving a dramatic and exasperated eye-roll to a fellow journalist identified as Zhang Huijun from American Multimedia Television (AMTV) when she asked a question along with praise for the government.
Liang didn’t hide her disdain as Zhang went on for 40 seconds and later turned her face away in disgust. Her expressions soon became a talking point on China’s social media as GIFs and parody videos of the incident have made it to the internet.

Chinese social media has also been divided into red and blue between supporters of the two journalists. This also led to censors trying to contain the hysteria as Liang’s name became the second most blocked name on Weibo.
Although Liang didn’t care much about the attention her eye roll was getting, the video led to her accreditation to cover the NPC being revoked, as reported by the South China Morning Post.
