He gave his heart to her

DC speaks to couples in the city who are getting married on Valentine's Day.

While some feel it’s cheesy, we’re with the ones who think that getting married on Valentine’s Day is the most romantic thing ever! It’s the perfect way to celebrate two people coming together for a lifetime. What makes V-Day this year special is that it falls on a muhurtha naal (auspicious day according to the Hindu calendar). DC speaks to couples getting hitched today on what they have in store, why they zeroed in on this date to tie the knot and more.

“It’s an amazing coincidence that Valentine’s Day happens to be a muhurtham,” says Raajsekaram Emrose. “Deepthishree (fiancée) and I were given an option of around ten dates in January and February, but 14th seemed the best option because it’s a special day and a weekend!” he says adding, “We’re getting married in a traditional Tamil ceremony, but we will be cutting a cake in the evening to celebrate our marriage and the special occasion.”

For entrepreneur Ashwin Sundar, today’s a joyous occasion for more than one reason — “I’m marrying the girl I love, so it’s a love-cum-arranged marriage of sorts,” he smiles. “It feels great to be tying the knot on Valentine’s Day because it’s the epitome of love. Also, this way I won’t and can’t ever forget my wedding anniversary!” Of course, we agree with him — men forgetting wedding anniversaries and wives fuming at them in anger — well Ashwin and his fiancée Nivetha, don’t have to go through this, do they?

It’s the same case for lovebirds Jawahar Shanmugam and Bhavya Palani, who both work as consultants in Infosys. “Today being a weekend and Valentine’s Day is the most perfect combination we could have ever asked for,” Jawahar says. “Yes, ours is a ‘love marriage’ but arranged too. Even though we don’t have a lovey-dovey theme for the wedding, our invitation cards are quirky — they’re designed to look like airplane tickets! They even have little hearts printed on them,” the couple adds. We wish all these wonderful people a very happy married life!
