Creative solutions for traffic woes

Bengalureans talk about the innovative ways they have adopted to deal with rain related chaos!

“Traffic” and “Rain” is something that none of us can control and when you add bad roads to the mix they make for a nightmarish combination. Getting from one place in the city to another can become quite trying when stuck in a traffic jam and when it’s raining. We talk to a few Bengalureans on what it is they do to overcome Bengaluru’s traffic situation. “It was 11:30 pm and I was stuck in traffic on Electronic City for more than an hour. The water level had risen to above the waist. While others stood on the side of the road waiting for the water to recede I pushed my bike through the water for about five kms to get to place I wanted to go.” says Gajendra Raju, an IT personnel with an apparel company.

You’re already running late for work, the worst thing that can happen to a person at this time would to be to get stuck in traffic. “I was schedule to meet a client in Whitefield at 10 am. But as luck would have it I was stuck in traffic for nearly half an hour near Marathalli. It was already 9.45 am. As I was getting late for the meeting I was forced to park my car in the side of the road and have the meeting with them through Skype. I had a really difficult time explaining to them as to why I had to have the meeting through Skype,” says Anita Jemima, city-based professional. In order to get from one place to another on a working day during peak hours in Bengaluru traffic can be a real nightmare. With all the construction work cropping up in the city every other day commuting has become even more difficult.

“It was Friday evening and the rains were hammering the city. I was stuck in stationary track for almost 45 minutes. When the cars hadn’t moved an inch after all this time I decided to park my car and to start walking. Armed with an umbrella in hand determination in the heart I started walking. Jumping over puddles, potholes and deep pools of water, I reached the entrance of Lingarajpuram flyover after an hour of walking to hail down an auto but as luck would have it there were none. The traffic was nightmarish and I had literally held on to the metal railings of the overhead to keep from falling over. What I don’t understand is where the money which we are made to pay as taxes goes?” says Preeti Rai a resident of the area.
