Women in India often have to compromise instead of being able to freely follow their dreams because of parochial traditions and dogma. Many are compelled to get into arranged marriages for the sake of the family’s so-called honour but few of them fight back to reclaim their life. Haritha is one such young Indian woman who not only had the courage to walk out of an abusive marriage but also went on to start a new life from scratch in a foreign country.

 

 

 

Humans of Amsterdam, a popular Facebook page, shared Haritha’s brave story about fighting for yourself even when your loved ones don’t support you. The post deeply resonated with the readers of that page and received thousands of shares and likes.
