The Thaarai Thappattai girl, along with the members of Save Shakti movement, had met TN Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy, on Monday, to handover a petition to the latter.

Speaking to DC after her brief meeting with CM, she said, “In today’s scenario, crimes against women and girl children are alarmingly high. It was disturbing and I wanted to do something from my side to curb it. And that’s when, along with a group of like-minded people, I began the ‘Save Shakti’ campaign, where we urged the state government to increase the number of Fast Track and Mahila courts in every taluk and magistrate level, which are handling such cases. Sixty thousand signatures have been procured so far. We handed the petition over to our CM and have urged him to do the needful. He said that ‘these Mahila courts are already in the legal procedure. But implementation takes time’. He promised that he would take the necessary action as early as possible.”

Varu added, “We had also stated in the petition that these cases cannot prolong for long and should be resolved in a stipulated time, say within six months, so that the victim gets justice on time.”
