A time for forgiveness

Many Hyderabadis observe Lent, where people fast or abstain from favourite foods and festivities.

The 40-day Lent period is about to get over, with Easter just around the corner. Many Hyderabadis observe Lent, where people fast or abstain from favourite foods and festivities. While most believers give up on things such as meat, alcohol and caffeine during this period, there are many others who give up on certain habits and make necessary changes in their lives. Let’s take a look at what celebrities and prominent people from the city have given up this season!

Aruna Bahuguna, IPS officer (retd)
I give up on non-vegetarian food and alcohol. I give gifts and food to poor children during this period. Lent is a time of penance and forgiveness. Apart from giving up on meat, I also make sure that I clear misunderstandings with people close to me. I make sure that there is no bitterness in relationships and I focus on not committing any sins.

Sabina Xavier, Entrepreneur
This is an exciting time for kids because we get together with relatives during this season and spend time together as a family. I give up non-vegetarian food for all 40 days. I also do a lot of charity work during this period.

Brother Show Reddy, Member of the advisory committee of Association of Catholic Christian Minority Institutions
This season is not just about giving up on certain foods, it’s also about making changes in your life. Apart from fasting and giving up on non-vegetarian food this time, I’m working on not speaking ill of others. Many of us end up doing this unknowingly, and I think we should stop it.

Anisha Ambrose, Actress
It’s important to be righteous throughout the year and not just during Lent. This is a season of repentance and sacrifice, but I think it’s not about doing right things just in this season. We should keep away from wrongdoings throughout the year. Apart from focussing on that, I also make sure that I spend time in church.
