Building blocks of success

Real estate tycoon B. Subba Reddy describes how he built every bit of his real estate empire brick by brick.

Born in the town of Nellore, Subba Reddy was brought up in an agricultural family. However, this 49-year-old managing director of Vamsiram Builders possessed the zeal to become a businessman right from his childhood. “After my studies, I came to Hyderabad with a dream to become a businessman. I started assisting my uncle in his construction projects which helped me in fulfilling my dream to a great extent,” says Reddy.

Set up in 1998, Vamsiram Builders was founded with an initial investment of Rs 15 lakh. “But my goodwill is much bigger than this now,” says the humble businessman. Today, Vamsiram has worked on some significant projects for clients such as Raymonds, ITW Signode, Q Mart, Rainbow Hospitals and Tishman Spier.

However, when he started his first project in 1998, the construction industry was going through a tough phase. Reddy was trying to straighten things up and while it may look like a smooth journey to an outsider, he had started everything from scratch. “But I sustained in the industry with sheer dedication, hard work and timely decisions,” says the self-made businessman

The property magnate has an eye for luxury and is extremely passionate about design and style. Reddy believes that when you put quality before profit, it won’t take long to build a reputation. “From the beginning, I realised customer’s satisfaction is more important than profit. This helped me in spreading my business and gaining new projects; that’s how I attained a competitive position in the market,” says the soft-spoken entrepreneur.

Over the last decade, Vamsiram has established a strong footing in Telangana as well. Projects like the state of the art IT SEZ-Sohini Tech Park in Nanakramguda spread across 4 million square feet of land; a mall in Banjara Hills; an IT park in Madhapur and a fully air-conditioned four-bedroom high-rise apartments called Jyothi Cosmos in Hitech City that’s in the pipeline are some of their latest works.

The Pursuit of Ideals
Reddy emphasises that one must always address the best interest of the client — a vital factor for the real estate business. He says, “When we initially started our residential and commercial projects, we found clients were looking for high quality and high standards. Then we started delivering their dream product. From there, there was no looking back.”

It’s crystal clear that Reddy’s success is rooted in following his own voice and being his authentic self. A self-confessed workaholic and a passionate family man, Reddy shares, “My wife Jyothi has been a big support throughout my journey; my well-wishers also equally supported me on my journey.”

Born to be an entrepreneur
It would be right to say that this entrepreneur paved the road to his success with sheer hard work and dedication. “Being an entrepreneur is a tough and a long journey. I got lucky and succeeded. I continue to learn and grow. I picked up many lessons along the way and now I apply them to each of my projects,” states Reddy.

Talking about his success mantra, he quotes American businessman Warren Buffet’s lines: “‘Honesty is an expensive gift, don’t expect it from everybody.’ He says, ‘I look for opportunities to assist people and serve. This not only makes me feel better about myself but it helps in my business. I don’t expect anything in return, the act has to come from the heart and be completely selfless. Sometimes people we have helped, help us back.’”

Motto in life
“If the goal is worthy, it’s going to take time to accomplish. And overcoming all the obstacles will take a lot of determination, guts and resolve. If you really want to accomplish it, go for it, and don’t stop until you achieve it,” says the man.

Despite the seriousness of his business, Reddy prefers to stay light-hearted and is always open to new ideas. “I love to travel a lot and my other passions are organic farming and watching movies,” he concludes.
