Parents also learn Braille to help wards feel alphabets

The parents decided to learn Braille as it helped them in teaching their children.

Thiruvananthapuram: The parents of students who have problems with their eyesight were also initiated into the world of Braille during the Braille Vidyarambham organised by the National Federation of Blind, Kerala branch, here on Tuesday. The parents of visually challenged persons, who do not have any problems with eyesight, decided to learn Braille as it helped them in teaching their children.

Those who participated in the event included Aparna, a fifth standard student of St Mary’s school, Pattom, along with her mother Leena, a home maker; Anto, a ninth standard student of the same school, and his mother Tessy, a teacher; Ziyona, an eighth standard student, and her mother Rosemary, who worked in private financial institution; Abhijith, a degree student of University College; and railway official Subramanyan and his wife Mahalakshmi. Those who taught them Braille were former headmaster of the blind school, Jagathy G. Thulasheedharan Nair, National Federation of Blind resource person Annie George, coordinator J. Saju and TTC students Nandu Thampi and Vishnu.
