Watch: Mumbai's sex workers share the dreams they have for their children

India alone has over 3 million sex workers and many of them are mothers.

Every year thousands of young girls and women are forced into prostitution worldwide either because of extreme poverty or by falling victim to the evil schemes of human trafficking gangs. India alone has over 3 million sex workers and many of them are mothers. YouTube channel Yathartha Pictures in collaboration with a charitable organisation called Asha Mahila Sanstha interviewed mothers who work in Kamathipura in Mumbai which is infamous for being Asia’s second largest red-light district.

The video shows the young anchors speaking to the sex workers and asking them about the hopes they had for their children. All of them unanimously declared that their aim was to ensure a secure future for their kids. They wanted them to have stable careers and most importantly live a life with dignity.

One of the women revealed that they did not receive any kind of support from the government and were left to fend for themselves. Not one wanted their child to have to do anything with sex work when they grow up. Some of them said the reason behind this was that they did not want their children to face the type of abuse they went through in life.
