Pallikoodam in tech town

Technopark campus is offering a space for Malayalam Pallikoodam, the traditional language classroom, for kids aged five and above.

Aren’t we thankful to technology for making our lives easier? It has become a shortcut to many things that took too much time and energy. It has even become a hot favourite of kids to learn new and refreshing lessons at a swipe. But at times, it is good to return to the roots, to know how it all happened with no high-end gizmos and give the hard learning way a try. Malayalam Pallikoodam, the traditional language classroom conceptualised by poet V. Madhusoodanan Nair three years ago, is coming to Technopark to teach the techie kids the beauty of Malayalam.

Notebook, pen and pencil are a big no to this place where kids are made to write on slate boards and sand beds. The curriculum has songs, poems, proverbs, plays and riddles to reinforce pronunciation skills. The topics contain the art of speaking, versification, storytelling, folk songs and grammar lessons in addition to inculcating knowledge and values through Malayalam. The weekly classes are open to five-year-olds and above.

“The classes are arranged on the Technopark campus in a convenient space. A bag containing all necessary study materials are provided by Malayalam Pallikoodam. We have started receiving enquires. Once we get the number of students required for a batch, classes will being. As of now, it has been tentatively scheduled for August 20,” says Meera M.S., coordinator in Technopark. Prathidhwani, the socio-cultural organisation of Technopark is associating to bring Pallikoodam to the IT Park.

A monthly fee of Rs 500 is charged for each student. Interaction with experts, games and tours encompass the package. The classes are designed as per the guidelines of a panel with Madhusoodanan Nair, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Sugathakumari, Prabha Varma, Achuthasankar S. Nair, Kanayi Kunhiraman and D. Babu Paul on board.

The classes are scheduled from 10 am to 1 pm.
