Video: This ad breaks the stereotype and redefines beauty of a woman

Hitting out at existing perceptions of beauty.

We were all introduced to nursery rhyme at the very beginning of our school life, and still remember some of them. But what we didn’t realise then was that these simple words were actually educating us about certain norms set by society, and some even turned out to be outright racist.

One of these reinforced certain standards of beauty which focus a lot on the importance of fair skin, and it went something like this. “Chubby cheeks, rosy lips, dimple chin, teeth within. Curly hair, very fair, eyes are blue, lovely too.

With time people have become aware how important it is to dismantle this blue eyed and fair skinned notion of beauty, and in an attempt to do so, Dove and Culture Machine’s channel Blush came together.

In a video where the poem is recited, female athletes are seen training for their respective sports, as they stretch, put on mouth guards and sweat it out as the intensity of the training increases.

Hitting out at a perception of beauty with which the society is very much obsessed, the video asks, ‘Is that you?’
