Watch: India's first frozen waterfall-climbing film is finally here
Rock climbing has always been a risky sport but two bold mountaineers decided to push the envelope even further by taking on a 260-feet high frozen waterfall. Abhijeet Singh and Pranav Rawat, both aged 31, began their dangerous ascent to the Shela waterfall in Himachal Pradesh on January 16th 2016.
The waterfall, which is located 13,000 feet above sea level, is formed by a tributary of the Spiti River passing through the Shela peak in the remote Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh. As the temperatures over there ranges from minus 10 to minus 35 degrees Celsius during winter, the fall remains in a frozen condition for most part of the year. Singh and Rawat were accompanied by a team consisting of cameramen, professional climbers and terrain experts as well as a drone operator on their epic journey.
In the video, the men talked about how there were certain moments when the ice was so thin that they could see water running through it. Battling hostile climate conditions and other risks, the duo finally managed to scale the frozen waterfall successfully. Most of the footage of the crucial scenes of their climb was captured by GoPro cameras.
