Bengaluru office canteen gives a hard-hitting message on food wastage

The number of malnourished, undernourished and hungry people are highest in India.

How many times do we care about food wastage when we overload our plates? Do we even have any idea about how many people die every minute due to hunger?

An IT giant in Bengaluru installed a board in the office canteen that would make their employees think twice before they overload their meal plates and then throw the leftovers away.

Tata Consulting Services (TSC) came up with a very innovative statistic about food wastage to shame the employees who waste food. They decided to spice things up so that it hurt exactly where it should have.

A notice board in the canteen stated:

Take all you can eat, but eat all you take. Yesterday’s wastage was 45 kgs, enough to feed 180 hungry people.”

This picture was posted on Facebook by Bengaluru resident Sahiba Singh and was shared more than 40,000 times.

The number of malnourished, undernourished and hungry people are highest in India, according to Food and Agriculture Organisation estimates in 'The State of Food Insecurity in the World, 2015' report.
