Parents are proud of 12-year-old son who wants to transition and become a girl

A lot of parents around the world might not be comfortable with the idea of their identifying as a different gender. But there are also families that are much more supportive when a child takes such a crucial decision in life.

12-year-old Zoey was born a boy named Kian and has decided to go ahead with a transition to become a girl. While Zoey says she feels happier and more confident now, her parents are proud of her and want her to start puberty blocking drugs as soon as possible.

Zoey’s mother Karen Middleton said that her son had always wanted to be a girl and the family will love and support the child irrespective of the gender she chooses to be. They are hoping that she is soon examined at a hospital and can start taking hormone injections.

Her father admitted that the process wasn’t easy for him but he will stand by Zoey if she wants to take drugs to block puberty. David said he was worried about his child facing bullying at school due to her decision.

The number of children being referred to gender identity clinics in the UK has quadrupled in the past five years.
