Vaisakhan to head Kerala Sahithya Akademi

Akademi would be expanded to more fronts with the involvement of working women, Vaisakhan said.

Thrissur: Veteran Malayalam writer Vaisakhan took charge as the president of the Kerala Sahithya Akademi here on Monday. Speaking to media persons after assuming office he said that the activities of the akademi would be expanded to more fronts with the involvement of working women, students and tribals.

He also said that the cultural activities of the akademi would be further strengthened with the involvement of different sections of people. “At present, we need an approach with broader views. We are planning to take literature to the masses to find a solution to all the burning issues. And we believe that it is the function of literature to solve the issues and strengthen our culture,” he added. He further said that all the memorials and institutions under the akademi would be strengthened.

The akademi is planning to bring well-known writers in the country to Kerala to interact with writers and the public here, he said. Newly appointed vice-president of the akademi, Dr Khadija Mumtaz said that she would extend all support to the president in his endeavours.
