A bond that has only grown stronger
Dr Sunil Kapoor and Gusti Noria have been friends for the past 30 years. Sunil says even though they don’t meet every day, he knows he can count on Gusti no matter what happens. “We met some 30 years back when we were in Intermediate. One of my first memories is that we became friends from day one. We used to play cricket together. I think we clicked because we were both foodies,” says Sunil, a leading cardiologist in the city.
“He was one of the most mischievous boys in our class,” Industrialist Gusti Noria laughs, adding, “In spite of being mischievous, he used to study like the first benchers and sit with the last benchers enjoying the best of both worlds.”
Friends in need
“We both know that we can rely on each other to be there when everyone has totally washed their hands off. We’re that close. I always take time out of my hectic schedule for friends as it is a great stress buster and very refreshing,” says Sunil.
So, what’s the best thing they like about each other? “We don’t have to say anything to each other. I know exactly what’s going on in his head. He has a twinkle in his eyes and a ‘Mona Lisa smile’ which leaves his friends thinking about what exactly he meant,” elaborates Dr Sunil.
Friendship is...
Long hours of gossiping, even if there is nothing to discuss. Gusti has a subtle sense of humour. Talking about his favourite incident about Sunil, he says, “He dressed up like a pregnant lady in disguise and came to one of our friend’s marriage anniversary party and told my friend that she (he) was bearing his child. We spend all our time laughing.”
Is there anything about Gusti that irritates Sunil? “Nothing, really. He’s a very funny and genuine person. Why do you think we’re friends for so long? We have a large group of friends who are all great fun to hangout with.”
Has their friendship changed over the years? “Not at all. It has only grown stronger. Meeting everyday is an issue because of our busy schedule, but once we are together, we rock,” Sunil signs off.
