DeMon turns 1: Modi demonetisation garners mixed reactions from twitterati

A year has passed since PM Modi announced demonetisation, people are still divided in their opinion.

Demonetisation turned one, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter on Wednesday where he saluted the nation for supporting the move for a cash less society. “125 crore Indians fought a decisive battle and WON,” he wrote on Twitter.

“I bow to the people of India for steadfastly supporting the several measures taken by the Government to eradicate corruption and black money,” he added.

While it has been a year since demonetisation took effect, opinion, it seems, is still divided.

While Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra posted,

Another user on the micro blogging site wrote,

While one cannot miss the humour in Suresh Alakhprabhu's post where he got all nostalgic for the time when there used to be Rs1000 currency,

Rajiv Singha puts forward a thoughtful question, pointing out the date twitter uses to increase character limit,

And one Geetika Swami is all praises for the Prime Minister,

While another user Priti Mali called Manmohan Singh's speech against it an epic failure,

However, not all are convinced.

An user who goes by the name Samar, finds certain event suspicious,

While another user posted,

Sathish Bondolero was more vocal in his opinion,

And Uday Singh found humour in the move,

Finally, Jayasree Vijayan called it an organised loot,

It was on November 8, 2016, that in a surprise move, PM Modi scrapped Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes overnight calling it a war against black money and corruption.
