Karate instructor tells boy it's okay to cry' in moving video
There are few blessings in life like having a mentor who encourages you to face life’s challenges head-on. A video of a martial arts teacher telling a little boy that it’s okay for men to cry has won praise from online viewers for encouraging healthy emotional behaviour in young men.
The video featured part of the initiation test that a little boy called Bruce had to take in order to get into an academy that combines spiritual meditation with mixed martial arts. His teacher, Jason Wilson, guides him as Bruce attempts to break a block with his fist. When Bruce starts crying, Wilson tells him that “it’s okay to cry” before adding “we cry as men.”
He later goes on to impart a very important lesson: “It’s good to cry so you can work through that emotion, so when it arises again, you can push it to the side, and do what you gotta do.” The talk seems to have a deep impact on little Bruce, who is then able to successfully break the block on the first try.
The video has been viewed more than 17,000 times on YouTube alone and has also been shared hundreds of times.
