Swap Shop opens in Kozhikode

Notifications have gone to the government offices about the Swap Shop aimed at reducing e-waste and others.

Kozhikode: The first 'Swap Shop' under Zero Waste Kozhikode, envisaged by Suchitwa Mission opened on the premises of the Collectorate here on Wednesday.

The public can drop in their reusable items in the drop boxes placed in the stall of the Zero-Waste Kozhikode, and those interested can take the good for free. It would be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

They receive sandals, bags and electronic goods in the first phase. The shop would be officially launched on Thursday and will remain open till Friday. Books and clothes are not allowed, officials said.

Once the project becomes successful, as the next step, shops would be opened in the panchayats, said one of the officials. On the first day, bags and electronic goods were received in huge quantity, they said.

The public is encouraged to leave goods in good condition, and not to dump waste products. Products in more quantity or no longer in use at one's house can be dropped here.

Those who do not drop also can take the goods, if they found one.
