Memories of Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa, who dedicated her life to the service of the poor, has been declared a saint. A large number of people flocked to Vatican City to witness the canonization mass by Pope Francis. We spoke to a few people about their memories of the Mother.
Samir Thapar, a textile businessman who shared a photo on Facebook, says, “The photo was taken 20 years ago. My grandfather did a lot of charity work with her, that’s how I happened to meet her. We still run the charity organisation in Delhi, where we serve food to almost 700 people each day.”
Samir recalls that he was suffering from a severe migraine on the day he met Mother Teresa. “When she started talking to me...it was magical. She spoke about helping others, welfare and things close to her heart. As I looked into her deep blue eyes, my migraine was gone! I think it’s the aura she carried with her. She was full of energy,” he says.
Another admirer of Mother Teresa, Gautam Mahmood, was nine-years-old when he met her. Gautam, a lawyer by profession, says, “In 1981, Mother Teresa was visiting Nalgonda to open a home for the destitute. We were asked to receive her and that’s how we met. When I told her that my father was a Muslim, my mother a Hindu, she was fascinated. We invited her to our house and spoke about many things. I didn’t realise how important she was back then; now these photographs will always remain close to my heart.”
