Santoor Maestro Pdt Tarun Bhattacharya creates new raga dedicated to river Ganga
Santoor Maestro Pdt Tarun Bhattacharya has created a new raga Ganga dedicated to the lifeline of India. The ascending and descending notes of the newly created raga are mostly in flat while the alap is lyrical and is followed by jod which increases in tempo and speed.
Speaking about his creation the maestro expressed his sentiment of sadness and melancholy as people are slowly destroying the river Ganga and almost reducing it to that of a sewerage pouring all the filth and polluting it to the extent that it may soon become extinct. The new raag is his salutation to the river and an appeal to all Indians that enough is enough and people should get into the act of cleaning up of the river and save her from extinction.
He recorded the raag Ganga at his personal studio recently and was ably supported by GIMA Award winner Pdt Prodyut Mukherjee on tabla.
Pdt Tarun Bhattacharya who as a disciple of Bharat Ratna Pdt Ravi Shankar learnt the finer nuances of Santoor at Varanasi under the watchful eye of the Sitar legend on the banks of the river Ganga shall unveil the album featuring the new raga Ganga at Varanasi itself.
