What is unusual about this clip is that soon the pre-adolescent boys join the woman and cheer her while she continues to dance on the stage.

The video highlights the reality and question our sensibilities on many levels. However the idea of this video is also to question Censor Board Chairman Pahlaj Nihalani to regrade item numbers.

A petition has also been made for this which read:

The project ‘Re-grade Item Numbers’ aims to build a more sensitive world for children, by bringing alive the issue of unregulated adult content in the form of ‘Item Numbers’.

The intent is to break the habitual conditioning where children are unintentionally exposed to adult content like this as there is no proper awareness around the subject. In reality, the impact of such content that glorifies the objectification of women by degrading them through its lyrics and visuals, does not just lead to a more desensitised society, but also leaves a massive impact on young impressionable minds.

Children perceive Item Numbers as an acceptable way of viewing women. And the problem may not just end there. Studies have shown how overexposure of adult sexual content has also led to juvenile crimes against women, amongst other issues like Early Sex, High-Risk Sex and Sex, Love and Relationship Addictions.

So, in a country where the statistics show a steep rise in this area, it is our responsibility to come together and build a better, more aware world for our children and women.

There has been a 143% increase in the number of rapes by juveniles.

- Annual Report Figures on juvenile crimes by the National Crime Records Bureau (2002 to 2012)

India has been named as one of the worst countries in the world for women.
